Where possible Nice HySecurity has blocked the ability of insects, reptiles or rodents from entering the gate operator but some pests are more determined than others to find a new home in your operator enclosure. Once inside the control box, actuator motor or keypad they can impede movement of moving parts or short out electronics. What can you do about it?
Firstly perform your annual maintenance. Detection of pests before damage occurs is your best line of defense. Open and inspect the control box on a regular basis and clean out any nesting materials or dead insects found there. Left over nests or dead insects may attract other insects/rodents to your operator.
If rodents or reptiles are the issue, use of a fine mesh to block any opening in the actuator, motor or control box may be needed.
Some of our customers have found that mothballs left in the control box are a good deterrent for some insects. Use of pesticides around the housing and control box has also been found to be effective.
If you are unsure of what to do contact a local pest control company for help and advice.
